The Unbiased Approach
The ice age has been a mystery to many scientists for many years. How did it happen? And why is there such a vast number of extinctions amongst large animals like the woolly mammoth?
Perhaps you lean toward evolution. Can I ask you for just a moment to take the unbiased approach to this mystery?
Maybe you don’t consider yourself biased. Well, are you one of those people who, when confronted with the possibility that the Bible fits right into the study of historical science, that you conclude that the evolutionary theory was incorrect and therefore must be reevaluated? If so, then this is a biased approach.
If you are unwilling to take the unbiased approach, then I suggest you go no further, because you won’t be convinced anyway. But for those of you who are willing, just for this article, to consider the possibilities that I will mention here, I hope that this article is helpful to you.
Billions of Years
Evolutionists believe that the universe itself is approximately 13.7 billion years old, and that the earth’s ocean is 3 billion years old. Evolutionists also believe that the earth has experienced 5 major ice ages, with up to 30 total ice ages. The first ice age, the Huronian ice age, took place around 2.5 billion years ago, followed by the Cryogenian, Andean-Saharan, Karoo, and Quaternary or Pleistocene ice ages. To evolutionists, these ice ages are an incredible mystery; as it is extremely difficult for an ice age to occur. First of all, summers must decrease in temperature to the point that snow cannot melt! This is just one of the many factors needed to create an ice age.
There is not room in this article to elaborate, but if scientists believe that the sea itself is 3 billion years old, then why do they say that the process of sediment in the ocean is only millions of years old? This is one of the areas in particular that caused me to raise a question about evolution. Which one is it? And if the tiny speck that exploded 13.7 billion years ago only consisted of hydrogen and helium; why don’t scientists explain where all of the other elements come from on the periodic table???
The Deluge Theory
What I want to suggest is that IF, in theory (to those of you readers who want to look at it that way)
there was a great flood, a flood greater than the glacial Missoula flood and Ob River flood, a flood that covered the entire world in 40 days, a flood that was only 4,400 years ago, and who’s proportions of worldwide chaos were so great that it would reduce the sedimentary deposits from millions of years to just 6,000 years; things could be viewed differently as far as how an ice age could be born. Again, I say, in theory suppose such a catastrophic event took place.
Now, if there was a great flood that covered the entire earth, it would be safe to look at the record of this flood in the Bible. Genesis 7:11 says, "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month; the same day were all the FOUNTAINS OF THE GREAT DEEP BROKEN UP, and the windows of heaven were opened."
First of all, I want to remind you that only recently has man discovered that there are actually springs at the bottom of the ocean. So we can see that the Bible isn't just making up some mythological occurrence. Science (which means knowledge by the way) has proven that these fountains did indeed exist; and DO exist, just like the one you see here.
Studies have revealed unparalleled volcanic activity that took place throughout the earth. In his book, "Frozen in Time," Michael Oard says, "Interbedded within the sedimentary rocks is evidence of incredible volcanic activity that had no parallel today. Vast, unusually thick layers of volcanic flows and ash interlayer sedimentary rocks and fit the worldwide Flood paradigm very well."
So why is it important to note the volcanic activity? Because the two of these incidents happening at
the same time would be two contributing factors to an ice age. How so? If there was a flood as the Bible describes it to have occurred, then the waters within the fountains would be extremely hot. An excellent example of this would be Boiling Lake on the island of Dominica one of the islands of the Caribbean.
Now the waters in the per-flood ocean would have made the fountain waters cooler and brought the entire ocean content to a very warm temperature.
The volcanic activity that came from the earth’s mantle would have sent volcanic ash and gases into the atmosphere. As a result of the ash, the sun’s rays would have been prevented from hitting the earth and instead, have bounced back into space.
A good modern day example of this would be the Tambora eruption in Indonesia back in 1815. As a result of this eruption, the area of Tambora, along with many surrounding areas would experience a year without a summer in 1816. It is reported that in June of that year, they experienced heavy snowfall, and in July and August, there was a great frost! Do I need to remind you of where Indonesia is on the globe? It is right along the equator! Even the area of Europe reported a much cooler summer than normal. If something local like this had such chilling effects, it is easy to imagine what could have happened throughout the earth.
When the fountains of the deep were broken up, according to the Bible, the earth was not completely flooded until 150 days after this occurrence. Noah, according to the Bible, was in the ark for a total of 372 days. In order for an ice age to take place, the ash would need to shade the earth for a year, and eruptions throughout the world would have to continue for 3 years; and studies have shown that this is all that is needed to produce an ice age. And let me remind you again that there is evidence of tremendous volcanic activity found within the sedimentary rocks throughout the world.
Another question that I have is this. If there were 5 major ice ages in the world, ranging from 2.5 billion years ago up to just 50,000 years ago; then why aren’t we finding preserved species that distinctly defend the process of evolution as mainstream scientists explain that it happened? Scientists will say that the species, as a result of the cold, did not evolve as a result; but that doesn’t make sense at all! And if they lasted as long as mainstream scientists say, then why do we find areas still unglaciated, such as the sand spires found in the state of Wisconsin? Wouldn't 2.5 billion years of time with five huge ice ages have touched everything?
The Wooly Mammoth
Now we come to the woolly mammoth. How did such huge animals—and seemingly strong enough and built enough to survive such conditions—become extinct? Again, for this article, we are considering the deluge theory. After the flood, the waters froze as a result of the cold atmosphere and glaciers began to spread over the earth from pole to pole. As a result of this, great lakes, like lake Missoula, were formed. These particular lakes are called glacial lakes, because the only things that kept them intact were the glaciers damming the way out. When the melting process began, the waters broke free. If you can imagine a lake like Lake Michigan breaking free, you can get an idea of how devastating this might have been. When this lake broke loose, it is estimated that the flooding poured from the area of Lake Missoula to the Pacific Ocean had a breadth of 350 miles! The evidence is insurmountable, and evolutionists and creationists alike agree that this flood did indeed happen. But here’s the thing; evolutionists did not accept this for quite some time, because it fit all too well into the idea of a worldwide flood, but eventually, they had to accept this.
During the deglaciation period, much of the earth was windy and dry, and much of the vegetation perished. It was much like a famine. But there were areas like Siberia that had an overabundance of vegetation; and for animals as large as the woolly mammoth, this was good news. This explains the huge migration of woolly mammoths within this area. Especially in the area of the Ob River, there is evidence of vegetation that nourished these large creatures. Unfortunately, in this same area, there were glacial lakes much like that of Lake Missoula. It is believed that these broke loose and drowned a vast majority of woolly mammoths along with other creatures of great size. The big question is how we have managed to uncover frozen mammoths, completely intact! Here is a possibility. In the same area that woolly mammoths are found in huge quantities, there are also huge amounts of silt. When the floods poured through, if the ground consisted of clay, the waters would have passed through too quickly. And if it consisted of sand, the waters would have been contained to long for freezing up. But silt is able to contain just enough water to freeze very quickly in the conditions of Siberia.
Where do we find woolly mammoths intact? The mommoths that have been found, preserved, and intact are in huge mounds in Siberia calledyedomas. If you notice the picture, these are mounds of silt, built up in mounds by permafrost from deglaciation! Because of the quick freezing that took place; we have been able to find woolly mammoths intact, and frozen for our studies!
People Deny the Flood Just as the Bible Prophesied
I hope you have enjoyed this article. This article is simply a summary of the studies made to uncover the mysteries of the ice age; but perhaps maybe you have considered that there was indeed a flood. And if there was a flood, you can also consider that the Bible is perhaps true! The Bible says specifically in 2 Peter 3:3-7,
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers walking after their own lusts and saying, Where is the promise of his coming, for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. Whereby the world that then was being overflowed with water perished, but he heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
This is saying that there are people in these latter times that are declaring that there never was a flood, and because of these men, people are being lulled asleep in light of a soon coming judgment! Perhaps, you have considered these things, and it has raised a question to your thinking. There are other articles that explain things.
