Did Adam Really Name All of the Animals in ONE Day???

Adam and the Animals

I want us to look at the passage concerning Adam, and the eventual arrival of Eve. There is a particular thing that happened that the majority of us as creationists would hardly recognize…considering that Genesis 1:1 is all we need to know to help us realize that the rest of this wonderful book is error free. First of all, look at Genesis 2:18-25. Something unusual happens at the beginning of our text. God points out that it is not good that the man should be alone; and he brings to Adam animals to name. What does this have to do with God creating Eve? Many evolutionists love to pick out this verse to try and refute creationism. Why? Because there are currently about 2 million known species of creatures, with the speculation that the actual number of existing species ranges between 5 and 50 million!!! Thus, the evolutionist asks, “How could Adam have named all of those creatures if Genesis 2 gives a broad view of just day 6 of creation week? Let us look more closely at this passage; specifically verse 20, “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field…” Like Satan in his misrepresentation of scripture; the evolutionist announces that “The Bible says that “Adam gave names to every creature!” But is this what the passage is saying? No! The passage says that Adam named cattle, fowl, and beast of the earth. Let’s simplify this: Cattle, fowl, and beast of the earth are all vertebrates. Vertebrates are any animal with a vertebral column, or spine. Of all the 2 million species that we know of in the world today; 98% of those are invertebrates! This leaves us with only 40,000 species left. Wow! That really simplifies things! Let’s make it even simpler! Cattle, fowl, and beast of the earth do not include SEA ANIMALS! There are 25,000 vertebrates in the ocean and freshwater lakes and rivers. Not only this, but obviously amphibious species would not fall into the three categories mentioned, and they consist of 4,000 species! This leaves us with only 11,000 species left! That’s not so hard, Adam! But wait! There is another discovery made within the last 150 years, and that is the study of rapid speciation. What’s that? Within 150 years, new species have descended from older species! For example…if you take a camel, and a llama, you can breed them together! They have also been able to breed an Orca with a dolphin, a lion with a tiger, etc. These produce new species different from the previous ones. Doesn’t this prove evolution? No! Because you can’t breed elephants with a lions, but you can breed lions with tigers! What’s the difference? FAMILIES! Taxonomists call it genus. All cats…lions, tigers, panthers, house cats…come from the felidae family. Llamas, Vicunas, and Camels come from the camelidae family. As long as they are in the same family, the possibility of cross breeding is likely! For 150 years, speciation has continued under close study at a steady rate! You add 6,000 more years to that number, and we can easily decrease the number of species that Adam had to name down to 2,500! He could have done this at a rate of 5 seconds per animal in three hours, with a five minute coffee break each hour!!! Obviously, it took a little longer than 5 seconds to name an animal; but this could have easily happened within a 24 hour period! Okay, with all that being said; why did God do this??? If you look back at Genesis 1:26, there is a key to be found. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” God made man different from the rest of His creation…He made man in His own image. He wanted Adam to see that he was made very different from the other creatures. He wanted Adam to realize that He was not just another one of God’s creations…Adam was designed to impersonate God Himself! He gave man the power to choose…notice that Adam could already talk! He didn’t walk around like a caveman grunting! How, according to the Bible, can we see that such a view doesn’t contradict the Bible? Because God made man in his image, He made man like Himself…and He could SPEAK! This whole idea of man starting out with grunts is preposterous! He designed us to worship! So why did God make Eve? It certainly wasn’t for the reasons men tend to view women today! There were no dishes, no LAUNDRY (obviously!), no kids…nothing! Just Adam and Eve…and God. So what was she for? Listen to what Paul says in Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word; that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies; he that loveth his wife loveth himself; for no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it; even as the Lord the church. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and the two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” God ultimately had a design! I do not think we truly understand what it meant when God created man in His image! Obviously this does not mean that we look like Him! John 4:24 says, “God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit, and in truth.” Jesus Christ said in Luke 24, “For a spirit hath not flesh and bone as ye see me have.” Isn’t it interesting, though, that the life of our flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 7:24)? And isn’t it interesting that we cannot get blood transfusions from animals, but we can from one another? And isn’t it interesting that Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, still had blood? What do I mean by this? Well, scientifically speaking; we get our blood from our father. We have all different types of tissue in our body. Skin tissue, lung tissue…yet histology realizes that blood is a tissue! Tissues are cellular combinations that work together to perform the same thing…blood tissue are a group of cells whose main objective is to sustain life. Yet if blood only comes from the father, how could Jesus have had blood? John 3:16 declares that Jesus is God’s only begotten Son. Thus, His blood came from the Father…and it was compatible with the human race. How? Because we were made in God’s image. It is important to realize that a man should only have one wife; for that is the design! When marriage takes place, the man and the woman become one flesh. And they represent the unity of God and his church! The redeemed…the group of people that he intended from the beginning! And over and over again, the Bible announces that a man have his own wife, not wives! This woman was created to bring Adam closer to God. It was through the woman that God would again unite man to himself!  God also designed the woman to aid the man with reproduction! And a man is to train up his children as the godly seed that God intended from the beginning. We are seeing so much divorce today because man does not see the importance of bearing the image of God. Evolution has been around much longer than Charles Darwin. We might call it Pantheism, which believes that all creation happened naturally, without a creator. Such an idea is being drilled into the minds of our young people in the public school systems today. They are being trained to believe that they are the master of their own fates. It is no wonder that there is so much divorce. O yes, let us not forget that the divorce rates are in decline….but only because people just aren’t getting married anymore. Things are definitely not getting better…not by a long shot! And this whole idea of Eutopia as the end result of evolution is not looking good at all! As Solomon put after a strong humanistic thesis called Ecclesiastes, he finally said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” By Michael Barnett
