Lessons from a Pit Bull

IMG_3072.JPG You can learn a lot of things from a Pit Bull. As I was passing out door-hangers, I came across a house that had two Pit Bulls standing at the driveway. They were really not very large, as many are not. Rather, I should say, a Labrador Retriever is larger. A Pit is certainly no chihuahua.
As usual, I try my best to make sure every person gets a door-hanger, and so I always try to be calm, collected, and kind! Well, I felt safe as I noticed their wagging tails, but as I ventured further into the driveway, one took a nip at my hand. I thought, "That wasn't really a playful bite!"
I then began to focus completely on the dogs instead of my mission to reach the house. They sensed my fear and started to growl, as one of them went behind me and bit my calf...hard. I noticed their invisible fence collars, and ran past their boundary line. You normally should never do this, but as I was already becoming an appetizer, I had to decide what the best option was, because I knew he would bite again. It worked! They stood there, 10 feet inside the driveway and glared at me.
Amazingly, the pain was pretty bad, but my pants were not punctured. So I assumed my leg wasn't punctured either.
The teeth of a Pit Bull are like needles. They are very small and very sharp. I figured I had better at least check to see if the skin was broken—and it was! The back of my calf had distinct teeth marks, and a chunk of flesh was loosened. Unbelievable.
Pit Bulls are very much like our enemy as Christians, Satan. I'm sorry if you like Pit Bulls, but I don't like them. An evangelist came to our church one day with one and told us how harmless they are and how sweet...even though they had a complete remote control system that they carried at all times. Harmless...yeah right.
Pit Bulls have a paralyzing effect. When they sink their teeth into you, suddenly, you get your mind on the dog, on the pain...and your walk is suddenly confused. I never made it to my destination. You know, Satan does that a lot to Christians. He'll bring some form of discomfort to your flesh, and suddenly, the value of the mission at hand suddenly seems very unimportant.
Another thing you can learn from a Pit Bull is to carry pepper spray, or a stick, or something to fight him off. I was unarmed. The Bible tells us to take to ourselves the whole armor of God. One of those pieces would be the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Satan's fiery darts are flying, and if you don't have the shield of faith, you'll get bit! And if you can't counter his lies with the Word of God, he'll bite again, and again, and again until he finishes you off. You need to be ready always. You need to keep scripture in your heart.
These are just two brief things that can be learned from a Pit Bull! So Fan the Flame, and be prepared always!
